He's on the Ray is a scene right out of the permit fishery we have at Blackfly Lodge in Abaco Bahamas. On certain tides and in certain moon phases (which I can't tell you) very large permit swim out of the surrounding deep water to feed on the flats for crabs, tiny lobster and small fish. I wanted to represent this scene I've seen many time in the Bahamas and I've even caught a few permit myself doing this. This was fun to paint and it just made me want to get on a boat at the lodge and look for a few rays.
