Sandy Point is one of my favorite fishing spots in the Bahamas and when I got the commission to paint a scene from somewhere that had cool clear tropical water, I knew where I had to go. First of all, because I have part ownership in Blackfly Lodge in Abaco Bahamas, this was the easiest choice of where to start looking. 3 days on the water and lots of photos, I ended up in Sandy Point, some 15 miles or so south of the lodge, thinking maybe the shoreline there might give me the 'Island Palm Tree' shot I needed.
The other requirement for the commission was that the land part, the palm trees, had to be on the right with the expanse of ocean on the left. The reason for that was this was going to be a two part canvas that was to wrap around at 90 degrees to each other in the corner of a dining room in upstate New York. Each panel was to be 5 feet wide.
The Sandy Point photos turned out to be more or less what I was looking for with one exception, the palm trees were on the wrong side of the photo. A quick horizontal flip in Photoshop solved that problem and I was off to the pencil sharpener to get the 20 #2 pencils ready to go.
A 10 foot painting requires some rigging to keep things from moving around so that they actually fit together when you're finished. The original has been shipped to the owner but giclees on canvas are available in various sizes.
These reproductions are available as Giclees on canvas only and can be ordered either as a set or individually. This piece was painted to be displayed side by side as shown in the top image above. I've also shown each print in a larger size to show more detail. Giclees on canvas can be any size you choose proportionate to the original size (25 x 60 each panel) and the price depends on that size. For sizing options and a quote call Jean at 904-540-3184.
